Yoh and Haruna are from a shoujo manga (girls comic) called Koukou Debut (translates as "High School Debut"). The series is about a girl entering high school (Haruna) who wants to fall in love like the girls in the shoujo manga she reads. The trouble is that she's been a tomboyish kind of girl in middle school and she doesn't know how to be attractive. To solve this problem she decides she needs a coach and by chance she runs into Yoh, who happens to know what guys look for in girls.

Yoh agrees to help her as long as she didn't fall in love with him. His first impression is that he hates girls, but Haruna begins to change him and he finds that he wants to protect her. Eventually, Yoh forgets about his threat about not falling in love with him and they become a couple. They have some cute and hilarious moments together, as well as some problems, but the manga continues and they are still together and changing each other along the way.
